In December 2008, AAPT undertook research on consumer broadband habits, which revealed that some households’ telco expenditure had increased by up to $44 a month in the past year.
According to AAPT’s Head of Corporate Communications, Tahn Shannon, the increase in costs was partly due to the fact that internet access is now used for a lot of different functions such as content rich media and applications.
“Because we’ve been told that families are finding it hard to manage their household telco costs, we’ve decided to help them get more from their broadband packages. We will now only include downloads in our usage caps, not uploads,” she said.
“We talk to our customers regularly to find out as much as we can about their technology usage habits and what they want from their telco provider so we can tailor our products and services to suit their requirements.
“AAPT has a number of value-for-money capped plans and when customers reach their download limits, we simply slow down the speed. We don’t charge excess usage fees, so our customers aren’t faced with unwanted surprises in their bills at the end of the month.
“By discontinuing upload counting in our broadband caps, families will enjoy extra value in their packages,” she said.
